Smart’s marriage joke with TCU coach Sonny Dykes

During the Sunday morning press conference before the title game, Smart and TCU coach Sonny Dykes shared a little joke about their marriages.

Dykes pointed out that he and his wife of seventeen years had only been involved in three disagreements. Smart seemed pretty impressed, remarking: “I’m more impressed you’ve only had three arguments with your wife in 17 years. I’m still trying to conquer that.”

Kirby was once told to apologise for using ‘HBTFD’ by his wife

Following a win at Auburn in 2019, Kirby was forced by his wife to apologise for swearing when coining the phrase ‘HBTFD.’

Before the Texas A&M game a week later, he said: “I would like to apologise for something I said after the game Saturday night.

“That’s not indicative of who I want to be and what I stand for. You know you messed up when you get home to your wife and she’s more upset than you won the game, she’s more upset with something you said.

“It’s not what I represent. It’s not the kind of behaviour I want to have. I want to say to the Dawg fans out there and everybody, I’m going to try to handle that a lot better. It was an emotional win and I was very emotional.”
