Everton are reportedly weighing up a move to sign Aston Villa striker Danny Ings on a permanent deal, with the England international once on Liverpool’s books before moving on from Anfield.
According to journalist Alan Nixon, the Toffees could make a transfer offer to sign the 30-year-old attacker having already had a loan proposal rejected by Villa, with Frank Lampard eager to bring in more firepower this month as Everton slumps near the bottom of the Premier League table.
The Merseyside club are far from the only club interested in signing Ings, though, with the Daily Mail recently reporting that West Ham are also interested in the former Southampton superstar, who looks set to leave Villa Park this January.
As mentioned, Everton fans could be uneasy about the club making a move to sign Ings given the attacker’s former links to city rivals Liverpool, with the attacker spending the best part of four years at the club before joining Southampton in 2019.

Indeed, Everton supporters have already suffered some trauma from former Liverpool figures in recent years, namely ex-manager Rafa Benitez. However, Ings could be a player who will change the Toffees’ fortunes around given just how desperate Lampard is for quality attackers.
Whilst there will be some hesitancy from Everton fans over Ings given his Liverpool links, the striker only ever played 25 matches for the Reds across three seasons at the club, with injuries plaguing the forward’s previous stint on Merseyside, which is why a move to Goodison Park could be for the best.
Everton signing Ings could be one of Lampard’s best moves yet

With seven goals in all competitions already this season, Ings is fit-and-firing for Villa. Though with Unai Emery seemingly looking to build his attack around Ollie Watkins, the 30-year-old leaving for Everton could be beneficial for all parties, with Lampard the main winner if such a deal comes through.
As we know, the Everton manager is in desperate need of a break, and signing Ings would be just that for Lampard, who will have a new talisman to partner alongside Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the Toffees’ attacker, something that has been needed since the summer.
