Danny Gabbidon was effusive with praise for Harry Kane after the Tottenham Hotspur star scored against Portsmouth. The England captain broke the deadlock in their FA Cup match.
Spurs hosted Pompey in the third round on Saturday afternoon to kick off their run in the competition. But the Premier League team would not find a breakthrough in the first half. Yet after just five second-half minutes, Kane found the route through the League One outfit.
Kane saw that Tottenham started the second period with a flourish to move one goal shy of Jimmy Greaves’ all-time club record. The 29-year-old struck his 265th goal in 412 games with a superb strike into the top corner after an exchange of passes with Ryan Sessegnon.

Kane’s goal proved the difference against Portsmouth to see Tottenham advance in the FA Cup. The 80-cap England star’s strike also blew former Wales centre-back Gabbidon away.
“Harry Kane’s just a fantastic all-round player,” Gabbidon said on BBC Red Button. “If you break down that goal, the movement to drop off, the little one-two – it was almost like watching a No10. He gets the ball back and what a finish, bending it into that far corner.”

Kane nears Greaves’ goal record with Tottenham’s FA Cup winner vs Portsmouth
Tottenham secured a 1-0 win over Portsmouth in the FA Cup thanks to Kane’s early second-half goal. The forward scored with one of his four attempted shots on Saturday afternoon, per WhoScored. Only Son Heung-Min would attempt more shots for either team with five.
Kane also scored with his only shot on target after firing wide once, while Pompey players blocked two efforts. He also now has 17 goals in 26 appearances across all competitions so far this season. The attacker has hit home 15 in 18 Premier League games, plus one assist.
Breaking the deadlock in the FA Cup also saw Kane close in on Greaves’ all-time Tottenham goal record. Of his 265 goals in 412 appearances for Spurs so far, the striker has hit the net 15 times in 20 FA Cup ties now. His best campaigns in the competition returned four goals.
Kane found the net four times during Tottenham’s FA Cup runs in 2016/17 and 2017/18 in three and four appearances. He also hit three goals in three appearances last season. But Antonio Conte will hope this term is not a repeat of his single-goal runs in three seasons.
