Arsenal transfer news has been running rampant this week, but there is one story that has slipped under the radar slightly.

Indeed, Record reported earlier this week that Arsenal’s Sporting Director, Edu, had a meeting in London with Hugo Viana – Sporting’s Director of Football.

It’s unknown what these two discussed at this meeting, but, in our view, there is one player that could have been on the agenda when these two met in the capital.

We’re talking about Goncalo Inacio.

It has been reported that one position that Arsenal are keen to strengthen in the near future is at centre-back – particularly with a left-footed defender, hence the links to Lisandro Martinez in the summer and Evan Ndicka this month, and Inacio is another player who ticks that box.

Described as a ‘phenom’ in the past, Inacio is quickly making a name for himself as one of the best centre-backs in Portugal, and we all should know just how fruitful that market has been in recent years.

From Ruben Dias to Luis Diaz, a number of the Premier League’s biggest stars right now are exports from the Portuguese league, and Inacio could be the next ace on that conveyor belt.

The Gunners do need to bulk up their defence in terms of depth on that left-side, and at the age of 21, Inacio is a player who most definitely fits into Edu’s policy of recruiting young, hungry and talented players.

Of course, we may be reading way too much into this and Edu’s meeting with Viana could have been nothing more than a catch-up between two old teammates who worked together at Valencia.

However, given that it is January and that both men are currently heading up recruitment teams for clubs who will be active this month, it’s hard to believe that their meeting would have just been for social reasons.

Edu and Viana may well have been talking about transfers, and Inacio could be one of the players who came up in conversation.
