Birmingham City coach John Eustace is convinced that £3 million-rated Rangers target Dion Sanderson will not be leaving the Championship outfit during the January transfer window, speaking to the Birmingham Mail.

You can see why Rangers like him.

Sanderson only celebrated his 23rd birthday in December. He’s versatile, highly competitive and appears to be improving season on season. Now at Birmingham, following similar loan spells at Sunderland, QPR and Cardiff, the Wolves-owned defender is hurtling towards something of a career crossroads too.

Does he have a future at Wolverhampton Wanderers? Reports suggesting that the right-back-turned-centre-half may be available for as little as £3 million suggests not. Sanderson could take the same route as Calvin Bassey, Ben Davies and Conor Goldson; moving north of the border after struggling for opportunities at a Premier League club.

But, as Football Scotland point out, striking a January deal for Sanderson will be easier said than done. There is no re-call clause in his Birmingham contract. As such, the Blues would have to green-light Sanderson’s mid-season switch to Ibrox, and there’s little chance of that happening.

“He is on loan with us until the end of the season. I haven’t been made aware of anything different,” explains Eustace.

“He has signed to us until the end of the season. And I am sure he will be here to the end of the season. He’s been outstanding. A big miss today, you can see that.”

Sanderson missed Monday’s 3-1 defeat to an in-form Middlesbrough. One of only two matches he has been unavailable for since making the short trip from Molineux to St Andrews during the summer transfer window.

Per the Scottish Sun, Rangers director Ross Wilson and scout John Park watched Sanderson in action during the festive period.

A resurgent Gers side have won four and drawn one since Mick Beale’s return to Glasgow, albeit dropping two valuable points during Monday’s 2-2 Old Firm derby draw. Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi fired home an 88th minute equaliser for the visitors.
