In our Liverpool player ratings, we had no choice but to be scathing as Jurgen Klopp’s side suffered a brutal 3-1 defeat to Brentford.

While Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain stepped up with a goal, strikes from Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo, as well as an own goal from Ibrahima Konate meant the Bees won at home in comfortable fashion.

Liverpool player ratings vs Brentford

Alisson Becker: 6/10

Ultimately, Alisson Becker could not have done much for any of the goals and in reality, he was unlucky to concede Yoan Wissa’s strike against a brilliant attempt at keeping it out. Made a couple of smart saves, and was typically reliable.

Trent Alexander-Arnold: 6/10

Barring his wonderful weak-footed assist for Alex Oxlade Chamberlain to get Liverpool back into the game, Trent Alexander-Arnold did not offer much going forward. For Yoane Wissa’s headed goal, he was outnumbered at the back.

Earns a 6 for putting in the odd delicious cross and constant effort.

Virgil van Dijk: 4/10

Hooked off at half-time due to picking up a knock but it’s safe to say that Virgil van Dijk was poor. Caught out at the halfway line to concede a Brentford counter-attack, which almost led to a goal and was out of position as the hosts scored from multiple corners, albeit with most of them being eventually disallowed.

Ibrahima Konate: 2/10

It is fair to say that Ibrahima Konate had one of, if not his worst game in a Liverpool shirt so far. Conceded a rather unlucky own goal, but failed to cover himself in glory with a meek piece of defending to get bullied by Bryan Mbeumo as Brentford went 3-1 up.

Much like van Dijk, Konate was appalling defensively in set-piece situations. A shocker to say the least.

Kostas Tsimikas: 3.5/10

Substituted at half-time and rightfully so. The Liverpool left-back failed to get a single thing right, missing a gilt-edged chance, conceding silly fouls, losing his duels and also being uncharacteristically poor on the ball.

Fabinho: 6.5/10

Surprisingly, the much-maligned Fabinho was one of Liverpool’s better players in their defeat to Brentford. Won most of his duels in midfield and showcased some elegance in possession by breaking the lines and pulling off a sumptuous turn.

Of course, the Brazilian international was one of the best of a bad bunch.

Harvey Elliott: 3/10

Harvey Elliott looked completely out of his depth, which led to a deserved substitution at half-time. On the ball, the Liverpool wonderkid continued to spam aimless crosses and constantly take up a wide right position, instead of staying central.

And of course, Eliott’s dummy, slated by Michael Owen (Premier League Productions) which led to Brentford’s eventual second goal was nothing short of comical.

Thiago: 5.5/10

In the first half especially, Thiago failed to dictate the game in any capacity, with an uncharacteristically loose touch from him almost leading to Liverpool conceding yet another silly goal. Often, the Spaniard’s passing was wayward and he lost possession far too many times in a rare off night against Thomas Frank’s side.

Mohamed Salah: 5/10

Barring a glorious pass at the start of the game which almost led to a Darwin Nunez opener, Mohamed Salah might as well have been on the bench, in what was such an anonymous showing from him.

Darwin Nunez: 5.5/10

Look, Darwin Nunez deserves credit for always trying no matter what. But unfortunately, the Uruguayan failed to finish his dinner on a couple of occasions, notably right at the start of the clash.

And when he did, the Uruguayan was caught offside in the second 45. Nunez was typically relentless but lost the ball far too often, which resulted in Brentford causing Liverpool headaches after capitalising during turnover situations.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain: 6.5/10

In the first half, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was easily Liverpool’s brightest player, picking out Kostas Tsimikas with a superb piece of skill, which should have ideally led to a goal. The Englishman did the same for the Greek left-back with a chipped ball, as he looked in the mood to wreak havoc.

While Oxlade-Chamberlain did convert his header in clinical fashion, he was far too anonymous in the second half.

Substitutes:

Joel Matip: 6/10

Joel Matip looked solid upon his second half introduction and dealt with everything that came his way.

Naby Keita: 5.5/10

While Naby Keita seemed to look bright in a Liverpool shirt again, his concession of the ball that led to Mbeumo’s goal was a reminder of his inevitable unreliability.

Andy Robertson: 5.5/10

Tried but barely impacted the game against Brentford.

Curtis Jones: N/A

Our Liverpool player ratings simply could not see any player getting even a 7/10 against Brentford, in what was a shocking display from the visitors to say the least.
