Liverpool are back in for Matheus Nunes with a deal for the Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder potentially being teed up for the summer.
That’s according to The Telegraph, who claim that Liverpool are now exploring a deal to sign Nunes.
This sounds like a strange deal as it’s stated that Liverpool actually struck an agreement last summer, promising to bid for Nunes in 2023.
Wolves went ahead with a £38million deal for Nunes, signing him from Sporting Clube de Portugal in a massive coup.
Liverpool are now expected to pay around £44million to sign Nunes, with the deal going through at the end of the season.
Liverpool allegedly have a ‘commitment’ to buy Nunes and the deal is ‘alive’ this month, with the Portugal international lined up top join ahead of next season.

Matheus Nunes to Liverpool strange for many reasons
We can understand why Liverpool fancied Nunes at Sporting.
The Brazil-born midfielder was outstanding for Sporting, becoming a quality box-to-box midfield player with great pace and ability on the ball.
That’s ultimately why Wolves pushed so hard to sign Nunes, but it’s fair to say that they haven’t quite seen the best of him yet.
Antonio Conte admitted that Nunes being in the Wolves midfield made him a ‘bit scared’, but Nunes has blown hot and cold for Wolves.
Few could have really expected a move to Liverpool being lined up but that could be a reality later this year.
Maybe if Nunes kicked on and enjoyed a consistent run for the next 18 months, then a move to Anfield could make sense.
Instead, Liverpool appear to have seen real potential in Nunes and think he can make an instant impact next season.
It also seems like a strange agreement with Wolves.
The current description sounds like Liverpool wanted Nunes last summer but didn’t have the money available for a deal.
They maybe then agreed for Wolves to sign him but then sell him to Liverpool for a profit in 2023, when more funds were available for the Reds.
It’s hard to remember anything like this happening in recent times but Liverpool may well land their man.
