Arsenal want Elye Wahi with the exciting Montpellier attacker making a real name for himself in Ligue 1 having emulated Kylian Mbappe.

That’s according to French website Foot Mercato, who claim that Arsenal have been following Wahi with real interest for months now.

It is though stated that Arsenal don’t have any immediate plans to make a bid for Wahi this month.

Montpellier don’t want to sell and would be seeking in advance of €30million (£26.5million) for their speedy attacker.

Arsenal are happy with Eddie Nketiah’s displays in the absence of Gabriel Jesus up top.

That has calmed their need for a new striker, so Wahi is one Arsenal are eyeing with more of a long-term approach in mind.

Who is Arsenal target Elye Wahi?

Wahi, 20, was a major talent in the Caen ranks and had some very lofty suitors.

Foot Mercato report that Juventus, Tottenham, Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool all wanted to sign Wahi as a kid.

Wahi ended up joining Montpellier in 2018 and has now become a first-team star with the Ligue 1 side.

The striker – who can play out wide as well – has been outstanding this season with seven goals and one assist in 14 Ligue 1 games.

By scoring against Lorient last week, Wahi became just the second player in the last 40 years to score 20 Ligue 1 goals before turning 20.

The other player was Paris Saint-Germain and France superstar Kylian Mbappe.

Nobody is expecting Wahi to be the new Mbappe but matching that kind of record is hugely impressive.

Wahi turns 20 today so he just sneaked that record over the line, and many more goals are expected to flow.

Arsenal may now fancy Wahi for the summer or even beyond, depending on the futures of Nketiah and Folarin Balogun.
