Newcastle fans have now moved one step closer to seeing Garang Kuol in action for the Magpies.

The Australia international – who Newcastle agreed to sign back in September – played his final game for the Central Coast Mariners earlier today, winning 2-1 thanks to a double from Jason Cummings.

What’s the story?

Well, Kuol is clearly a very popular figure among the Central Coast Mariners supporters, as they gave him a standing ovation in his final game.

As you can see below, the 18-year-old was applauded off the pitch by thousands before receiving a hug from Nick Montgomery and the rest of the coaching staff.

The Isuzu UTE A-League commentators also seemed moved by Kuol’s final appearance in Australian football, telling him to “go and make us proud” at Newcastle.

Clearly, the talented striker, who will earn £25,000-a-week on Tyneside, captured the imaginations and hearts of many in Australia.

In total, the Khartoum-born wonderkid scored six goals and provided four assists in 17 appearances for the Central Coast Mariners, and those associated with the club will surely be keeping a close eye on his development in England.

Newcastle have a gem in Garang Kuol

Eddie Howe’s attack now has another wonderkid in it alongside Alexander Isak – Newcastle fans should be very excited.

Kuol has an incredible amount of potential, and he now finds himself under the right manager to help him fulfil it.

According to Sky Sports, Barcelona were also very interested in signing the Australian, which speaks volumes about the type of talent Newcastle have got their hands on.

Australia boss Graham Arnold even named the teenager in his 26-man World Cup squad, which again shows just how highly rated the young striker is.

Hopefully, Kuol can settle down quickly on Tyneside, and show Newcastle fans what he can do out on the pitch.
