Leeds United are set to sign Maximilian Wober with the Red Bull Salzburg defender allegedly undergoing a medical already.

That’s according to Austrian newspaper Salzburger Nachrichten as they claim that Wober’s move is drawing closer.

It’s stated that Wober completed his medical with Leeds on Thursday ahead of joining the Elland Road club.

That hasn’t been confirmed in the UK but the Austrian press appear to be confident that Wober is heading for Leeds.

The report notes that Salzburg will begin their performance testing for the second half of the season on January 14th.

However, Wober isn’t expected to be in attendance and should be a Leeds United player in the coming days.

Fabrizio Romano reported earlier this week that Leeds were preparing a first bid of around €16million for Wober.

That works out to around £14million with Leeds now seemingly close to their first January addition.

Wober seems perfect addition for Leeds United

Wober will seemingly now become the latest player to reunite with Jesse Marsch at Elland Road.

Tyler Adams, Rasmus Kristensen and Brenden Aaronson all joined from Red Bull clubs over the summer having worked with Marsch earlier in their careers.

The same goes for Wober, who played 68 times under Marsch at Red Bull Salzburg.

The Austrian will now join forces with Marsch once again in what looks to be an ideal move.

Leeds have been using a conservative left back whilst allow the right back to go forward a little more, with Pascal Struijk impressing on the left.

Junior Firpo just isn’t suited to that role and Wober looks set to come in.

Wober has mostly played as a left back this season but also has history at centre back, meaning he could be a great fit for that role on the left of Marsch’s defence.

Add in that the 24-year-old former Ajax defender still has some untapped potential and Leeds will be delighted to make this signing happen.
