Jamie Carragher has picked Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe over Manchester City and Liverpool tacticians, Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp respectively as the best Premier League manager of 2022.
Or even Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta for that matter.
Since the takeover of Newcastle went over the line, the expectation amongst many was that Howe was eventually going to be upgraded upon by the club.
But the Englishman has silenced all his doubters by doing a phenomenal job at the club.
For starters, Eddie Howe took a Newcastle side languishing in 19th place, and guided them to as high as a 9th-place finish last season.
In the 2022/2023 campaign as well, Howe has overseen his side sit at 3rd place in the Premier League table.
While Newcastle have played an extra game, it still does not take away from how ridiculous it is that they sit just two points behind the Pep Guardiola winning machine in Manchester City.
Also, Eddie Howe and Co. have an eight-point lead over Liverpool, while having played an additional game, which is still incredible.
Maybe Carragher has a point after all.
Jamie Carragher picks Eddie Howe over Pep Guardiola & Jurgen Klopp as his Premier League manager of 2022

Jamie Carragher opted for Newcastle boss Eddie Howe over Manchester City and Liverpool coaches, Pep Guardiola & Jurgen Klopp respectively as the best Premier League manager of 2022.
“Eddie Howe is the best Premier League manager of 2022. The first phase of the new era at Newcastle United is a triumph of coaching more than the result of a financial revolution”, Carragher wrote in his column for the Telegraph.
He continued, “I don’t think any other manager could have bettered Howe’s work at St. James’ Park over the last 12 months.”
“Had the club’s Saudi Arabia owners somehow lured Pep Guardiola or Jurgen Klopp to the north east completing their takeover, the team would not be in a stronger position.”
While Jamie Carragher may divide opinion with this take, he makes a strong argument when suggesting why Eddie Howe has been the best Premier League manager of 2022 over both Pep Guardiola & Jurgen Klopp.
