Liverpool have reportedly joined the race to sign Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister ahead of the January window, a player that Seagulls teammate Adam Lallana recently branded as “incredible”, but “goes under the radar”.
Mac Allister, 23, returns to Brighton a World Cup winner having played a crucial role in Lionel Scaloni’s side. He was part of Argentina’s side after scoring five Premier League goals in 14 appearances from midfield. But a squad player.
However, after Argentina suffered a 2-1 defeat to Saudi Arabia in their first game – Scaloni re-shuffled his midfield. In came Enzo Fernandez and Mac Allister and the young duo combined to give Argentina the basis to shine in Qatar.
Little surprise then, that after starting Argentina’s next six games and laying on an assist in the final, Mac Allister is being targeted by some of Europe’s biggest clubs. According to Ben Jacobs, there is interest from Arsenal.
Italian site L’Interesta claim Tottenham, Juventus, Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid want him. Now, a new report from reputable Italian newspaper La Repubblica say Liverpool have joined the race. Lallana is a big fan of his teammate.
“You cannot have a team full of 11 superstars and every game I have watched Alexis play, he has been incredible. Alexis goes under the radar,” Lallana told The Times during the World Cup, when asked to pick his best XI.

The Reds have already kicked off their January recruitment with another World Cup sensation – Cody Gakpo. A quick, smart move given Liverpool’s poor start to the campaign. Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota remain sidelined.
Now, Liverpool fans will tell you they need better options in midfield. A more of an attacking midfielder to come in and compete with Thiago, Jordan Henderson, Curtis Jones and Naby Keita. The latter is out of contract in June.
Mac Allister fits the bill. He has the engine and work rate to fit into a Jurgen Klopp midfield. But he is also young, Premier League proven and able to not only shine in midfield – but get into the final third and provide end product.
