Douglas Luiz has stated on Instagram ‘Couto will stay at the Villa’ after Philippe Coutinho’s bombshell transfer message slamming the ‘lies’ that he wants to leave Aston Villa.
Ahead of the January transfer window opening, there have been suggestions that Coutinho wants to leave Villa, with the likes of Corinthians keen on taking the 30-year-old on board.
Last January, then-Villa manager Steven Gerrard secured the services of the playmaker from Barcelona on a loan deal, before making the deal permanent in the summer.
Whilst things started well for Coutinho, including scoring on his debut against Manchester United, he has failed to score or assist this season, with his form on the decline rather than looking like it will come back.
Many felt this was already the end of the road for the Brazil international in the Midlands, but that’s far from it, with the player making it clear on social media that he and his family are ‘happy’ at the club.
In the comments section of Coutinho’s IG post, Douglas Luiz posted ‘The little Couto will stay at the Villa’, whilst other teammates, such as Lucas Digne, Leon Bailey and Jacob Ramsey showed their support.
COUTINHO SHOULD STAY AT VILLA
There is still a player in Coutinho and if Unai Emery can get him cooking, then it will bode very well for the team in their quest to secure European football.
He’s been injured recently and only returned to the bench for the defeat of Liverpool on Boxing Day, with the games coming thick and fast during these coming weeks.
It will be interesting to see if he does earn a few starts during that period because some winnable matches are on the horizon.
