Darren Ambrose has touched on his surprise at Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg dictating games this season, a trait he has never associated with the Tottenham midfielder in the past.

In a season where Antonio Conte’s men have been largely unconvincing in terms of their all-round displays, the Dane has been one of the few positives.

To the extent that it would be fair to claim that all the good work done Hojbjerg has gone under the radar so far, due to Tottenham and their failings dominating any and every conversation.

As Spurs came back from a deficit in typical fashion against Brentford on Boxing Day, it was the ex-Southampton anchor who came up clutch with a late strike to level the scores at 2-2.

Much of the positive discourse around Hojbjerg has been that he has been a surprising answer as a goalscorer for Tottenham this season.

A defensive midfielder by trade, it has been a breath of fresh air to see the 27-year-old score 3 goals not even halfway into the campaign.

However, Darren Ambrose has shined a light on another underrated facet of his game.

Ambrose is surprised by seeing Hojbjerg dictate games for Tottenham

Ambrose has now claimed that he has been surprised to witness Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg now start to dictate games for Tottenham Hotspur.

“Hojberg seems to be the one that’s making it tick in the midfield, which you never thought would happen”, he said on talkSPORT.

Hojberg is proving he is more than just a No.6 for Tottenham

When Pierre Emile-Hojberg first came to Tottenham for £15 million (Guardian) in 2020, he was renowned for being a lights-out defensive midfielder.

However, Hojbjerg has proven this campaign that he is capable of operating further up the pitch and make things happen.

Breaking the lines and finding runners in behind, the ex-Bayern Munich midfielder is certainly impressing by running the show for Tottenham.
