Newcastle United have been eyeing Mykhaylo Mudryk but now appears to be focusing on other targets as Arsenal move in for the winger.

Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mudryk has become quite the sensation this season.

Mudryk ripped Champions League defences apart this season, bagging three goals and two assists in six group stage games.

The 21-year-old has also notched seven goals and six assists in 12 league appearances for Shakhtar, becoming a top young talent.

Reports from iNews in September suggested that Newcastle United were considering a £50million January bid for Mudryk.

Yet it now seems that Newcastle are moving on.

Transfer insider Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that Newcastle are ‘checking out other situations’ away from Mudryk.

Newcastle could go back in for Mudryk if their other targets don’t work out, but it sounds like the Magpies aren’t planning a January move anymore.

Arsenal surely in box seat for Mudryk as Newcastle back away

Newcastle seemingly looking elsewhere for signings leaves Arsenal as the clear favourites to sign Mudryk.

Fabrizio Romano claims that Arsenal have submitted their first official offer for Mudryk, worth up to €60million (£52.5million).

Shakhtar have rejected that bid and are holding out for even more cash for their prized asset.

Mudryk wants to join Arsenal, seemingly fancying joining forces with Ukrainian international teammate Oleksandr Zinchenko.

The Gunners have been chasing Mudryk since last summer and they will surely keep going with more offers to sign him in January.

Hailed as an ‘exceptional talent’ by pundit Chris Sutton, Mudryk is quick, direct, skilful and has the end product to make teams pay on the counter attack.

It looks like Arsenal won’t need to worry about a Newcastle hijack attempt, but they should still push to get this deal done as soon as possible to limit the chances of missing out.
