If Liverpool signing Cody Gakpo ahead of them wasn’t bad enough, there could be more negative Manchester United news on the way.

The Reds are on the brink of signing Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven, after the Dutch outfit confirmed on Boxing Day that a deal had been agreed.

Gakpo is already on Merseyside to undergo a medical ahead of joining Liverpool, having previously been linked to Manchester United.

And now another target of the Old Trafford club could find himself heading to Jurgen Klopp’s side, too.

According to Eurosport, both Premier League giants are interested in signing Enzo Fernandez, who won a World Cup with Argentina earlier in December.

And journalist Rudy Galetti has revealed that Liverpool are in ‘pole position’ to sign the 21-year-old Benfica midfielder.

He told Tribal Football today: “As of now Liverpool are in pole position, but it’s only the beginning of the race for the World Cup’s Best Young Player.”

The Portuguese outfit only spent £15.8 million on signing the starlet from River Plate in June of this year [TyC Sports] and now they’re set to make a staggering profit.

Liverpool or Manchester United – or Chelsea, who are also linked – will have to pay a massive £106 million to sign him, which is his release clause.

After missing Gakpo, it remains to be seen if Manchester United news regarding Fernandez brightens but, if Galetti is to be believed, lightning could strike twice for Erik ten Hag and co.
