Why are Celtic not wearing hoops? Many have taken to Google to ask why the Bhoys are not in their usual green and white against St Johnstone today.
Normally, Ange Postecoglou’s side wear their traditional green and white hoops for home games at Celtic Park, but plenty of people watching the Scottish Premiership clash live on Sky Sports will notice that is not the case today.
So, why are Celtic not wearing hoops? Let’s take a look…
Why are Celtic not wearing hoops?
Well, the surprise kit change is actually for a very good cause.
Both Celtic and St Johnstone are wearing their away kits today as part of Shelter Scotland’s No Home Kit campaign, which has been designed to raise awareness around the growing number of people who do not have a safe or secure place to call home.

Gordon MacRae – Assistant Director of Communication for the Shelter Scotland charity – told Sky Sports: “Home stadium, home colours, home game. It makes sense to be able to talk through football about the people who don’t have the luxury of a home.
“This year, with the cost of living crisis making it harder for people to keep a home, we wanted to draw attention to the thousands of children and households who will spend this Christmas without a safe place to call home.
“Right now in Scotland, every 90 minutes, so the length of one of the games this weekend, five households become homeless. That’s just because it’s really difficult to afford a home, keep a home, navigate a broken housing system, and that’s where Shelter Scotland comes in.
“We are there, on people’s side, to give them the advice and support they need to keep and find a new home with the No Home Kit initiative, by asking football fans, at the ground or on their sofa, to wear their away kit or third kit and then text HOME to 708000, donating £5.”
What a fantastic idea, amid a very tough time for millions in Britain this Christmas.
Celtic have already back No Home Kit campaign before St Johnstone clash
This is the second time Celtic have publicly backed the No Home Kit campaign on the pitch.
The Celtic Women’s side have already shown their support by wearing the black away kit in their home match against Dundee United earlier in December.
It is great to see Scotland’s biggest club back the No Home Kit campaign, and we hope their contributions can make a real difference to those in need over the festive period and beyond.
