Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Tottenham-linked star Emiliano Martinez could now end up staying at Aston Villa.
GiveMeSport have reported that Spurs have earmarked the World Cup winner as the successor to veteran Hugo Lloris.
The Athletic have also stated that Emiliano Martinez aims to join a Champions League club, as his desire is to continue winning silverware.
The £20 million (Guardian) ace’s agent also told Tuttomercatoweb that his client would be open to leave Aston Villa if a switch to a top club intrigues him.
While Lloris was undeniably superb in Qatar, he has been quite error-prone in recent years.
As a result, it makes sense why Tottenham would reportedly wish to bring in a potential upgrade in Emi Martinez to their disposal.
Martinez has proven to be an expert shotstopper, while a key reason why he thrived at Arsenal was due to his reliable ball-playing ability.
However, it seems as if the Argentine could stay put in the Midlands for the time being.
Fabrizio Romano reports Tottenham-linked Emiliano Martinez could be set to stay at Aston Villa

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Emiliano Martinez, who has been linked with a transfer to Tottenham is “expected to stay” at Aston Villa.
The Italian journalist also mentioned that Bayern Munich are not considering the coup of the 30-year-old described as “absolutely amazing” by Gary Neville on ITV.
Spurs must look elsewhere as a goalkeeping upgrade is key
While Hugo Lloris’ shotstopping can be top-drawer on his day, he has seemingly declined even when it comes to his best trait.
On the ball, the French captain is simply not at the level required for an Antonio Conte side that aims to play out from the back with ease.
It made sense for Tottenham to approach Emiliano Martinez but after Fabrizio Romano’s update, one hopes the club continue their search for a well-rounded No.1.
