‘You can’t shut the door’: Aston Villa target hints he may be keen on possible Emery reunion

Aston Villa want Arnaut Danjuma and the Villarreal winger has admitted that he just couldn’t say no to a Premier League return.

Unai Emery leaving Villarreal to become Villa boss was always going to result in players being linked with following him to Birmingham.

Pau Torres, Samuel Chukwueze, Yeremy Pino and Nicolas Jackson have all been rumoured in some way since Emery’s arrival.

Then there is winger Danjuma, who is arguably the most appealing of the lot.

The Dutchman has already played in the Premier League with Bournemouth, though he didn’t make a huge impact.

Danjuma then excelled in the Championship and earned himself a move to Villarreal in the summer of 2021.

With 21 goals and four assists in 49 games for Villarreal, the versatile attacker has excelled in Spain and is now wanted by Emery and Villa.

Danjuma could be open to Aston Villa move

The Mirror report that Emery fancies luring Danjuma to Villa Park in a January reunion having enjoyed their time together in Spain.

Danjuma has told The Athletic that he would love a return to the Premier League and simply couldn’t say no if it was on offer to him.

The winger admitted that he just can’t shut the door on another chance in the Premier League, possibly in part because his last stint wasn’t all that successful.

Danjuma hailed the competitive edge in the Premier League and the fanbases that turn up every week.

Hailing England’s top flight as a ‘different kind of experience, Danjuma suggests that he will always be open to a Premier League return.

“You always have to say yes,” said Danjuma. “You can’t shut the door to the Premier League. The competitiveness of the country, the way that the fans are, the way that football has been ingrained here in the people’s culture — the Premier League is a different kind of experience.”

“At the right time, at the right moment in my career, you always have to be open to that,” he added.

If Villa were wondering whether Danjuma would be open to following Emery, those quotes should prove that it’s certainly worth asking the question in January.

Danjuma missed out on a spot in the Netherlands’ World Cup squad and few could blame him if he thinks he needs a Premier League move to take that next step – with Villa no doubt waiting in the wings.
