Speaking on the Talking Transfers Podcast, Graeme Bailey has shared what he knows about Andrey Santos.

According to Bailey, the young Brazilian midfielder is set to move to Chelsea from Vasco De Gama, despite being strongly linked to Newcastle for quite some time.

In fact, Bailey went as far as to say that Newcastle are incredibly frustrated by the fact that this player seems to be Chelsea-bound, stating that the Magpies genuinely thought they were going to be signing the midfielder at one point, stating that they saw him as a younger version of Bruno Guimaraes.

Newcastle are gutted

Bailey spoke about Newcastle’s feelings here.

“This is a huge frustration to Newcastle. They thought they had this boy. Coming from Vasco De Gama. He is one of the best young players in Brazil and they saw him as like a baby Bruno. They thought Bruno Guimaraes would be the ideal person to bring him on. That’s the ponds Newcastle are in now, there’s a lot of big fish in there, it’s a tough one for them, but Chelsea are a tough club to turn down,” Bailey said.

Missed out massively

If Newcastle genuinely believe that Andrey Santos can be like Guimaraes, they have missed out massively here.

Indeed, you don’t need us to tell you that Bruno Guimaraes is one of the best midfield players in Europe right now, and if Andrey can go on to be even half as good as he is he will be a superstar.

Unfortunately for Newcastle, it seems as though they have lost this race, but what’s more frustrating is that Chelsea have often been poor at developing talents like Andrey, so he may struggle to reach his potential at Stamford Bridge.

Perhaps this youngster would’ve been better off heading to St James’ Park.
