‘I’m sure’: Simon Jordan thinks £50m ace could join Crystal Palace

Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan is backing Patrick Vieira’s pursuit of Aaron Wan-Bissaka as the England international prepares to leave Premier League giants Manchester United during the January transfer window, speaking to talkSPORT (21 December, 11.40am). 

Palace, as Jordan points out, have a history when it comes to welcoming prodigal sons back home with open arms.

Wilfried Zaha, remember, is currently in his second spell at Selhurst Park. Nathaniel Clyne, meanwhile, came full circle in the summer of 2020; re-joining the club he left for Southampton eight years previously. 

And with Wan-Bisssaka no longer part of Erik Ten Hag’s plans at Old Trafford – he’s played just four minutes of football all season – Jordan feels that the Croydon-born right-back may soon be following in Zaha and Clyne’s footsteps.

“They’ve got a propensity to do that. They brought Clyne and Zaha back,” says Jordan, who spent a decade at Selhurst Park from 2000 to 2010.

“If Palace can do that deal, then I’m sure they will. I think Wan-Bissaka is a good defender. He’s slightly maligned at Man United.”

According to 90Min, Crystal Palace have held talks with United. Wan-Bissaka rose through the ranks at the South London outfit, establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s brightest talents before joining Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford for a staggering £50 million fee in the summer of 2019. 

West Ham are also in discussions. Wolves, however, are reportedly leading the chase as things stand. And Wan-Bissaka, for all his faults, would certainly represent a more defensively secure option on the right-hand side, at least compared to the error-prone Nelson Semedo. 

“He’s still a terrific defender,” adds former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder Danny Murphy.

“(Man United team-mate Diogo) Dalot has been outstanding, and come on leaps and bounds. But I’m still a fan of Wan Bissaka. When he’s at it, he’s up there. He’s still a good signing for someone, if you can get him on the cheap.”
