Newcastle United are reportedly serious about signing Real Valladolid wonderkid Ivan Fresneda in the January transfer window after club director Fran Sanchez admitted the defender could be sold.
According to Radio Marca Valladolid via Sport Witness, the Magpies are eager to sign the right-back as Eddie Howe looks to build his squad out with quality young players from cross the globe, with Fresneda having a release clause of €30m (£26m).
As per the report, though, Newcastle are not willing to match Valladolid’s clause for Fresneda, with the Toon instead hopeful of agreeing on a deal of around €15m (£12m) for the Spanish teenager that will see the defender return to his boyhood club on loan for the season.
Whilst Newcastle aren’t willing to pay the full release clause for the right-back, Valladolid director Sanchez has recently admitted that the defender could be sold in January, with the La Liga side seemingly open to cashing in on their latest star talent.

The Madrid-born defender has only made seven appearances in all competitions this season with Fresneda very much at the start of his footballing career. However, this seemingly hasn’t deterred the likes of Newcastle from chasing the fullback.
Indeed, Newcastle have the funds to plan their entire playing squad for years to come, which is why Howe is seemingly keen to sign Fresneda in January, with the defender having the potential to replace Kieran Trippier at right-back in the coming seasons.
Newcastle signing Fresneda would be a smart move in January

Newcastle have been very smart with their transfer dealings since the PIF takeover last year, and signing Fresneda would again be a wise move from the northeast Premier League side given how exciting the defender’s potential is.
Whilst the defender himself is nowhere near ready to compete in the English top-flight just yet, Fresneda could be a project player that works out big time for Newcastle, with the decision to loan him back to Spain one that makes a lot of sense for all parties involved in a potential deal.
