Liverpool want Christian Pulisic but are only eyeing up a loan deal for the winger, which may not suit Chelsea’s plans.

That’s according to 90Min, who claim that Liverpool do fancy signing Pulisic during the January window.

Liverpool are only seeking a loan move though, and Chelsea don’t really want to send Pulisic to a Premier League rival.

It’s noted that Newcastle feel a similar way in terms of wanting a loan deal, which Chelsea are reluctant to engineer.

This comes after The Sunday Mirror (11/12, p68) reported that Newcastle wanted to sign Pulisic permanently for around £40million.

It was suggested that Pulisic could be tempted into a move to St James’ Park in January as he looks to kickstart his career.

It sounds like Chelsea would much prefer a permanent deal to a loan one – but that seems unlikely to come from Liverpool.

Pulisic may be viewed as Liverpool’s Diaz replacement

Liverpool will be linked with a number of attacking players in the coming weeks as the January transfer window comes into focus.

Luis Diaz picked up a new knee injury in recent days, leaving him on the sidelines for the next three months.

This setback is a major blow for Liverpool and will leave Jurgen Klopp without a key winger until around February or March.

Even when Diaz does return, he will still need weeks to get up to speed having been out of action since October.

Pulisic would surely be viewed as an immediate, short-term replacement for Diaz on the left side of Liverpool’s attack.

Chelsea understandably don’t want to bolster Liverpool’s squad though and will surely block any loan attempts.

Pulisic needs playing time after just three Premier League starts this season and it seemingly isn’t going to come with Chelsea.

Klopp has previously hailed Pulisic as ‘fantastic’, so Liverpool’s interest isn’t a huge surprise.

Yet with Champions League qualification in mind for both teams, Liverpool may now miss out on signing the American winger in 2023.
