The agent of Morocco’s World Cup talisman Sofyan Amrabat is not surprised to see his client linked with a move to Premier League giants Liverpool after shining in Qatar, speaking to NOS.
Now, Liverpool supporters know from experience that a handful of stand-out performances on the World Cup stage are not always the most accurate representation of a players’ talents.
Neither El Hadji Diouf nor Salif Diao lived up to expectations at Anfield despite shining for Senegal back in 2002. And the less said about Milan Jovanovic, for that matter, the better.

Are Amrabat’s outstanding performances at the heart of this rock-solid Morocco side something of a ‘lightning in a bottle’ situation? Like Hakim Ziyech and Youssouf En-Nesyri, struggling at Chelsea and Sevilla respectively, Amrabat is playing some of the best football of his career at the Qatar World Cup.

Sky are now claiming that Liverpool have held talks with the Fiorentina enforcer; Jurgen Klopp and sporting director Julian Ward both big fans of the £35 million-rated ball-winner.
“We will see,” says Mo Sinouh, Amrabat’s agent, when asked about those Liverpool links.
“I understand that you want answers about that. The World Cup is a good stage, and he has proven himself. We will see where it leads. But he still has a contract with Fiorentina, and we respect that.”
“The World Cup is as important a tournament as the Champions League. Maybe even bigger. It is normal that Sofyan is the centre of attention, given how he is playing in this competition.
“Of course, I get a lot of phone calls for Sofyan. The whole world has seen he’s the best holding midfielder of the World Cup. Sofyan is a top professional. (But) he is focusing on the World Cup with Morocco.”
Per FootMercato, Amrabat’s camp have already met with Klopp regarding a potential January switch to Anfield. Labelled ‘world-class’ by Morocco coach Walid Regragui even before those shock victories over Spain and Portugal, Amrabat’s potential arrival could have the out-of-sorts Fabinho glancing nervously over his shoulder at Anfield.
Only time will tell, however, if he can thrive where Jovanovic and co failed.
