Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are competing with Jesse Marsch’s Leeds United for the signing of Goncalo Ramos from Benfica in the January transfer window, according to GiveMeSport.

Arsenal and Leeds United eye Benfica’s Goncalo Ramos

The report has claimed Ramos has a big release clause in his contract at Benfica, but Arsenal and Leeds are among the clubs keen on securing the services of the Portugal international striker, who scored a hat-trick at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

The 21-year-old reportedly has a release clause of €120 million (£103.25 million) in his contract.

Could a transfer happen in January?

In our opinion, it is unlikely that Arsenal or Leeds United will be able to sign Goncalo Ramos from Benfica in the January transfer window.

We do not see Leeds spend as much as €120 million (£103.25 million) on a single player.

No way.

Could Arsenal do it?

No, but with Gabriel Jesus injured now, you never know just how desperate the Gunners could become to replace him and push for the Premier League title, especially as they are now five points at the top of the table.

Benfica are a massive club in Portugal, and while they do sell their best players for good money, they are unlikely to part ways with one of their most prized assets in the middle of the season for anything less than his release clause.

Ramos has scored nine goals and given one assist in 11 Portuguese league matches so far this season.

The 21-year-old scored three goals and gave one assist in four World Cup matches for Portugal in Qatar.
