Danny Murphy has said on BBC Sport that Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane was “superb” for England against France in the quarter-finals of the 2022 Qatar World Cup on Saturday evening.
The former Tottenham midfielder believes tat Kane played well for the Three Lions despite his failure to score from the penalty spot late in the game.
Kane scored for England in the 54th minute from the penalty spot.
The striker got the better of his Tottenham teammate and France international goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
With France 2-1 up, England were awarded another penalty late in the match.
Once again, Kane stepped up to take the spot kick.
This time the Tottenham striker could not keep his effort on target.
Kane did do well overall, both when he was playing as a number 9 and when he dropped to operate as a playmaker.

However, France won the match against England 2-1 and have progressed to the semi-finals of the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
France are the defending world champions, and they remain in contention of winning the competition this year.
Danny Murphy on Harry Kane for England v France
Murphy said: “I feel for Harry Kane because he’s been superb tonight, so many aspects of his game. It’s arguably been his best game of the tournament.
“Overthinking it, I think he’s seen Hugo Lloris go the right way and tried to hit it that bit harder.”
