Transfer expert Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that he has been informed that Celtic will complete a move to sign Cho Gue-sung from South Korean side Jeonbuk Motors in the January window – amid reports he is keen to join Celtic.

The 24-year-old striker is a man in demand after scoring two of South Korea’s five goals at the World Cup. Indeed, he was the man to score twice against Ghana, but South Korea lost 3-2. He returns to Jeonbuk, not long after a loan.

He had spent time at Gimcheon Sangmu before returning in September. During the 2022 campaign, for both clubs, the 18-time South Korea striker has scored 21 goals in 35 games. Celtic are interested in bringing him to Scottish football.

A report from South Korean newspaper Sports Cho Hun said in the week that amid Celtic’s interest, the player is dreaming of a move to Celtic. Now, Jones says he has been told that this is a transfer to expect, for Celtic supporters.

“I think Cho Gue-Sung really does actually fit the type of player I’ve been told to look out for here in terms of a potential signing, and so I think that is a really interesting link,” Jones reported, in quotes published by GMS.

Celtic have been busy already. Indeed, they have brought in Japanese defender Yuki Kobayashi and Canada’s World Cup star Alistair Johnston. The latter is already a hit with fans on social media, hinting Victor Wanyama could join.

Now, Celtic are looking to strengthen their options in the final third. Another signing, and we are still three weeks ahead of the January window actually opening. It comes after reports said Giorgos Giakoumakis could end up leaving.

Terms have not been met between Celtic and the Greek striker and now, he could be off. Cho, who stands at well over 6ft, is likely to be considered Giakoumakis’ replacement in the final third. It is unclear how much Cho would cost.
