Tottenham are reportedly ‘very interested’ in signing LOSC Lille superstar Jonathan David, a player Arsenal are keeping tabs on as a replacement for the injured Gabriel Jesus.

According to CalcioMercato, Antonio Conte’s side are tracking the Canadian international as Arsenal look into potential options to remedy Jesus’ long-term injury. The Brazilian international is expected to miss as much as three months after picking up a knee problem at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

And David has now emerged as a target again for Arsenal, though Mikel Arteta faces competition from Conte, who is seemingly a fan of the Canada star ahead of the January transfer window. Tottenham are expected to move for a forward who can operate in numerous positions.

With nine goals and three assists for Lille this season, David has been in impressive attacking form despite Canada’s woes at the World Cup, where the North American nation lost every match despite some strong performances against the likes of Belgium and Morocco.

Indeed, David has long been linked with a move to the Premier League, and the 22-year-old could make these rumours a reality in January with interest once again spiking for the Brooklyn-born superstar. And it seems like the two clubs from north London will lead the charge.

However, given Arsenal and Tottenham’s current problems and squad depth, David himself would be wise to ignore interest from the Premier League sides, with the Canadian seemingly only going to fill a backup role should the youngster sign for either club in the January window.

David is regarded by many as one of the best young attackers in world football. Yet if your were to name two Premier League clubs who didn’t need an exciting forward to build their future around, Arsenal and Tottenham would be some of the first picks to come to mind.

With Jesus back in March and Tottenham having incredible options in their attack both the present and the future, David would be wise to sign for a club where he will be the star of the show for many years to come rather than a potential rotation player.
