Italian outlet CalcioMercato claim Arsenal have shelved talks to sign Mykhaylo Mudryk, Marco Asensio and Leroy Sane in order to focus on bringing in a striker to the club – following the injury suffered by Gabriel Jesus at the World Cup.
Jesus, 25, has picked up a knee injury that has since forced him to undergo surgery on the issue. It is expected that he will be missing for the next three months, at least. That has meant that the Gunners will now be focusing on a striker.
January is fast approaching and CM report that four players are on Arsenal’s shortlist. World Cup stars Cody Gakpo and Jonathan David, as well as previous Gunners targets Dusan Vlahovic and Tammy Abraham. Eddie Nketiah will get a go.
But Arsenal turning their focus to a striker means they will be shelving plans to add to their side on the left flank. Mudryk was the ‘chosen one’, but talks to land the Ukraine star will have to wait. He’s not the only one in this situation.
Indeed, the report claims Arsenal were also in talks to sign Asensio from Real Madrid – with his contract ending in June. The other, ex-Manchester City wide man Leroy Sane who remains at Bayern Munich. Focus switches to signing a striker.

Arsenal shelve plans to sign Mudryk, Asensio and Sane after Jesus injury
If Arsenal are to maintain their push for a Premier League title, they need to add to what they have already got. So, while signing a striker should be priority with Jesus out – they should still be looking to add on the flanks.
Any one of the three names would be wonderful additions. Sane will know Mikel Arteta well having worked alongside him at Manchester City. Mudryk is being strongly linked and has made it clear on occasion he would be willing to join.
Asensio on a free transfer, though, would be stunning business. One of Spain’s best players in a disappointing World Cup campaign, the Madrid star would not only be available on the cheap in January – but cover numerous positions.
