Lucas Moura hopes to return to Brazil when his contract at Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur comes to an end but there are currently no talks with Copa Libertadores winners Flamengo, the winger’s agent tells Jorge Nicola on YouTube.

At this point, Lucas’ return to South America feels like a case of ‘when’ rather than ‘if’.

Will he be boarding a flight across the Atlantic in July, when he becomes a free-agent? Or will he stay for another year at Spurs? Tottenham, after all, have a 12-month extension clause in Lucas’ contract.

There is also a chance that the former PSG forward stays in Europe for another season or two, with Sevilla among those showing an interest. He’s only 30 years of age, after all, and still has plenty of oil left in the tank.

You certainly can’t say Lucas Moura is not short of options.

“His contract expires in the middle of the year. And there is not much of an expectation that he stays (at Spurs),” Nicola explains.

“He considers returning to Brazilian football but he still sees himself as a young player. If he receives an offer from a big club in Europe, he could postpone his return to Brazil for one or two more seasons.”

Lucas Moura wants to return to Brazil when he leaves Tottenham Hotspur

Lucas started his career at Sao Paulo over a decade ago and believes it is ‘very, very likely’ he ends up back at the Morumbi at some point in the near future.

Some have suggested that Flamengo, winners of the 2022 Copa Libertadores title, could test Lucas’ loyalty to the Tricolor. But, according to his agent, rumoured interest from Flamengo is, at this stage, just that. A rumour.

“I checked this story out with Junior Pedroso, who is Lucas’ agent,” Nicola adds.

“Lucas has said he would only play for Sao Paulo (in Brazil). I asked Junior Pedroso (about Flamengo). He said that there was never any contact. So I think it is possible to consider that, as of now, there is nothing to mention (regarding Lucas’ potential move to Flamengo).”
