Liverpool have contacted the representatives of Fiorentina and Morocco ace Sofyan Amrabat and may be willing to offer one of the World Cup’s finest midfielders a big pay rise in the Premier League, according to Corriere dello Sport.

Whatever the future holds for the one-time Tottenham Hotspur target, Amrabat is understood to be inspired by one underlying ambition. A burning desire to play Champions League football. As soon as possible, preferably.

Given that Fiorentina have not graced Europe’s most-elite club competition in over a decade, and currently sit tenth in Serie A, the chances are that Amrabat will need to leave the Stadio Artemio Franchi if he is to have the brainchild of Tony Britten ringing in his ears.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Liverpool are in talks with Amrabat’s representatives.

Six-time winners of the Champions League, one suspects that a potential £25 million move to Anfield will appeal to a player who came within touching distance of joining Antonio Conte’s Spurs in a previous transfer window.

Amrabat’s current deal expires in 2024. Fiorentina are hoping to tie the 26-year-old down to fresh terms, though La Viola may struggle to match the figures on offer at Anfield. Amrabat currently earns £30,000-a-week in Florence.

Liverpool, meanwhile, could reportedly offer sums closer to £50,000-a-week.

Liverpool like Morocco’s 2022 World Cup ace Sofyan Amrabat

Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenburg backs up claims of Liverpool’s interest; Amrabat is one of a number of hard-running, high-energy central midfielders on Jurgen Klopp’s radar, alongside more expensive options such as Jude Bellingham and Moises Caicedo.

“He’s been sensational. He has got a bit of everything,” former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy tells talkSPORT of Amrabat; highlighting his role in Morocco’s 2-0 triumph over Belgium in the World Cup group-stages.

“Up against a talented Belgium midfield, he was the main man. He can play. He can mix it up. He’s a real talent. And I think Morocco, as a team, could surprise a few. I thought the way they played against Belgium was absolutely terrific.

“There are links with Liverpool. Even before the World Cup, there’s been a few rumours (about a potential move to the Premier League).”

Morocco coach Walid Regragui, meanwhile, believes it is only a matter of time before the ‘world-class’ Amrabat is plying his trade for one of the biggest clubs in Europe.
