Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu has been left stunned after learning about the injury that rules Gabriel Jesus out of the World Cup.

The Gunners sent a number of stars off to Qatar for the World Cup after moving five points clear at the top of the Premier League.

The big hope for Mikel Arteta was clear – no injuries to his star players ahead of the Premier League’s return later this month.

Sadly, it looks like Arsenal’s worst fears have been realised with Gabriel Jesus now facing a spell on the sidelines.

Arsenal’s Takehiro Tomiyasu left stunned by Gabriel Jesus injury

Jesus went off injured during Brazil’s 1-0 defeat to Cameroon last week and the initial suggestion was that it was nothing serious.

Yet this has been picking up steam for days now, to the point where Jesus is heading home to London and won’t feature in the rest of the World Cup.

There have been some claims that Jesus will now be out for three months as he needs surgery on his knee injury, but that is unconfirmed at this stage.

Arsenal fans are left fearing that Jesus will be out for some time now, possibly into March – and that’s a major dent to Arsenal’s title and even top four hopes.

Jesus may not have been scoring of late but he has been outstanding in pretty much every other facet of the game.

The news is filtering through to other Arsenal players, such as Japan defender Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Tomiyasu has been busy preparing for today’s last 16 clash against Croatia and was told by the media about Jesus picking up his injury.

Tomiyasu is seen on a Gekisaka video admitting that he ‘didn’t know’ about Jesus suffering his blow and asking if it was really true.

The Arsenal ace admitted that he only watched the first half of Brazil’s game so he had no idea, but immediately asked whether it was a knee problem for Jesus.

“It’s a shame because obviously playing in a World Cup is a big dream for us, for every football player,” said Tomiyasu. “So I’m sorry for him, but hopefully he will be back soon,” he added.
