Tottenham will reportedly intensify their interest to sign Josko Gvardiol after the defender’s performance for Croatia against Belgium, with the centre-back lauded for how he marked Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Antonio Conte’s side will look to step up their pursuit of Gvardiol after the 20-year-old’s display this week against Roberto Martinez’s side, a performance that earned rave reviews from the Croatian media, particularly with how the RB Leipzig star dealt with the Belgium attack.
As per the report, Gvardiol could go for as much as €80m (£68m) in the January transfer window as the Bundesliga side brace themselves to lose their star defender. And Tottenham could soon be at the front of the pack to sign the European wonderkid.
The north London side have been linked with Gvardiol for some time. Though despite links to Tottenham, the youngster is also being hotly chased by the likes of Juventus, Inter Milan, and more importantly for this story, Chelsea, who almost signed the defender in the summer.

Indeed, Tottenham signing Gvardiol would be one impressive coup from Conte’s transfer team. And with the Premier League side now increasing their efforts to land the 2022 FIFA World Cup phenom, there’s hope for supporters that a deal could be done for the youngster.
Whilst Chelsea remain the obvious threat for Tottenham in their quest to sign Gvardiol, Daniel Levy could have a surprise or two up his sleeves in negotiations with Leipzig, with the defender himself likely open to playing for Conte and featuring in the Premier League in 2023.
Tottenham have to do all they can to land Gvardiol

Gvardiol’s performances in Qatar this winter have been nothing short of incredible, with the centre-back establishing himself as one of the best young defenders in world football and now a major target for many of Europe’s biggest clubs.
And as a result, Tottenham must do all they can to win the race for Gvardiol in the January window, with the defender becoming too irresistible for Conte to simply avoid, even if Leipzig are to demand a huge transfer fee for their star asset.
