Liverpool want Marco Asensio and are ready to make a major push to sign the Real Madrid attacker during the January transfer window.

The Reds brought in Darwin Nunez over the summer but injuries to Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota have exposed a lack of depth.

Liverpool may therefore head back into the transfer market in 2023 in order to add more quality to Jurgen Klopp’s options.

Names like Marcus Thuram, Cody Gakpo and Youssoufa Moukoko continue to be linked but Liverpool could look towards Spain.

Liverpool want Marco Asensio

The Sunday Mirror report (04/12, p83) that Liverpool are expected to be pushing for the signature of Real Madrid star Marco Asensio.

It’s claimed that Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of Asensio and wants to bring him to Anfield.

Jorge Mendes and co are ‘plotting talks’ with Juventus and Bayern Munich but Liverpool are are expected to make a ‘major play’ to secure Asensio.

The 26-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and it’s unclear whether he will sign a new deal with Liverpool.

Asensio has only started one La Liga game for Real Madrid this season and it may be time for him to move on and chase more playing time elsewhere.

With Asensio now playing at the World Cup with Spain, he has the chance to put himself in the shop window for a big 2023 move.

That could be a cut-price transfer in January or simply moving on as a free agent come the end of the season.

Liverpool are seemingly in the mix for Asensio, seeing great value in his versatility to play in from the right flank or as a false nine.

Hailed as ‘world class’ by former Real boss Vicente del Bosque, Asensio clearly has talent but now needs to show it with a new club.

Liverpool will seemingly face a battle for Asensio though with Mundo Deportivo noting that Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has asked for Aensio to be brought to North London.

2023 is looking set to be a big year for Asensio as he weighs up staying with Real or signing a big deal elsewhere.
