Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli was in action for Brazil against Cameroon at the 2022 Qatar World Cup on Friday evening, and his performance was hailed in his nation’s media.

Brazil took on Cameroon in their final Group G match, with head coach Tite making a lot of changes to the team.

Martinelli, who has been superb for Arsenal so far this season, started for the former world champions.

Brazil lost the match 1-0, but they still progressed to the Round of 16 as group winners.

It was a largely disappointing performance from Brazil, but one player who stood out was the 21-year-old Martinelli.

The youngster was a constant threat to the Cameroon defence down the left wing and could have scored one or two goals.

Martinelli should have done better with a close-range header, but there can be no doubt that he was superb on the ball and was Brazil’s main threat.

The Arsenal forward is unlikely to start for Brazil against South Korea in the Round of 16, but he would be a very good option for head coach Tite to being off the bench.

Brazilian news outlet Jogada10 gave Martinelli 7.5 out of 10 in their player ratings.

The outlet said about the Arsenal forward: “Best for Brazil on the pitch. He was the author of the most dangerous moves of the Brazilian team and showed that he can be used more.”
