Preview story caption and Additional Time explained

The official Japanese website for the Blue Lock anime has provided the following story preview caption for episode 9, which is set to be titled ‘Awakening’:

“The Team V match with destiny on the line. In the first half of the match, Team V’s top rankers, Seishiro Nagi, Reio Mikage, and Zantetsu Kenjo, were overwhelmed by their abilities. In particular, the overwhelming offensive power of the Nagi and Reio pair, who boast an undefeated record after only six months of soccer experience, was more than enough to break the hearts of Kiyoshi and Team Z.

Just when they were about to give up on winning, Maki Hachiraku’s play ignited the “ego” of all Team Z members. In the final round of the first selection…under the extreme conditions, the “awakening of the raw talent” that Eshin had sought began.” – Blue Lock 09 Story, via official website.

The previous Additional Time clip featured Nagi asking Reo what the rules of football are. We then see Reo asking Nagi which boots he wants to play in and whether he wants a piggy-back after a tough training session – the caption says that Reo is wife-material. Their friendship even extends to giving deep tissue massages and giving Nagi a ride home on the back of his bike.

Mangaka explains which player is Japanese player Blue Lock material

Blue Lock manga author Muneyuki Kaneshiro recently sat down with the Japanese Asahi outlet to discuss Japan’s fantastic victory over Germany in the opening game of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The mangaka would claim here that Ritsu Doan was the most ‘egoistic’ player on the national team – Doan would go on to score against Spain in their 2-1 victory too!

“I feel that Doan is the most “egoistic” player in the Japanese national team. He has a kind of “me-me-me” swagger that is not typical of the Japanese, and even though he is not very big, he does not let his size get the better of him. In addition to his natural skill, I feel that there are more and more occasions for him to cut in and shoot by himself.” – Muneyuki Kaneshiro, via Asahi.

Kaneshiro would also share how he supports his local team in Japan Gamba Osaka, but is also a fan of Manchester City and Real Madrid, because “they want to be able to gather talent like in a game and make their dreams come true.”
