Liverpool are said to be interested in signing England World Cup star Declan Rice from West Ham in 2023.

That is according to the Telegraph, who believe Jürgen Klopp is keen to bring the 23-year-old to Anfield as the German aims to overhaul his midfield department.

Now, Rice may have just given a massive hint that he wants to join the Reds.

What’s the story?

Well, speaking in a press conference earlier today ahead of England’s Round of 16 clash with Senegal on Sunday, the West Ham No.41 said: “I’ve been playing consistently well for my club, and I feel like I really want to keep pushing.

“I see my friends here playing Champions League, winning the big trophies, you only get one career. I’m ambitious and I want to do that.”

By the sounds of it, Rice is starting to become a little bit envious of his England teammates, most of whom play for the Premier League’s elite clubs, and are regularly appearing in the Champions League.

The England international is yet to win a trophy in his career so far.

Rice came closest to winning a piece of silverware at club level when West Ham reached the Europa League semi-final last season, where they were knocked out by eventual winners Eintracht Frankfurt.

While the midfield maestro has been making a name for himself in east London, Klopp has guided Liverpool to the Premier League title and Champions League glory, while also lifting the FA Cup, Carabao Cup, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

Clearly, the German is capable of helping Rice pad out his trophy cabinet, which is currently gathering dust.

Liverpool have a good chance of signing Declan Rice

Putting his desire to win trophies aside for a moment, there are other reasons why Liverpool find themselves in a strong position to sign Rice.

The Telegraph mention that West Ham are facing the prospect of losing their talisman in a £70m deal this summer, when he will have just 12 months remaining on his contract.

Significantly, the Telegraph add that Rice has no intention of signing a new deal.

At Anfield, Rice will know that plenty of game time awaits him, as Klopp looks to freshen up his midfield department.

Jordan Henderson is now 32 years of age, Thiago turns 32 in April, and James Milner is 37 in January, so younger options are certainly needed.

Keep an eye on Rice next summer, as we wouldn’t be surprised to see him move to Merseyside.
