‘It’s like Die Hard with Santa Claus’
The movie’s director recently sat down for an interview with ScreenRant and was asked what attracted him to presenting Santa as an action hero:
“When they sent me the script, they did say, yeah, ‘It’s like Die Hard with Santa Claus.’ I was like, ‘Okay, that sounds cool, but it could also end up being on the cheesy side if done wrong.’ I read the script, I loved it. It had all the action you would expect. It had the humor and the edge, but it also had a big beating heart. That was actually my way in.”
He continued: “I was like, ‘Yeah, I want to do this because if we get the Christmas movie nature of it right, the beating heart between Santa and the little girl and their relationship, we can get away with everything else. We can go as crazy as we want, and we can really make a Christmas movie that stands out.’ Yeah, that was the goal.”
