Josko Gvardiol is ‘happy’ at RB Leipzig and is in ‘no hurry’ to leave the German giants despite ongoing interest from Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur, the Croatia international’s agent tells Calciomercato

In time, the famous Red Bull finishing school could have another graduate.

Like Erling Haaland, Sadio Mane and more, Gvardiol is living proof that Red Bull really does give you wings, blossoming into one of Europe’s best and most coveted central defenders during two years at Leipzig.

According to The Telegraph, Gvardiol has a £44 million release clause in his contract.

But even if the likes of Tottenham or Chelsea were to trigger it, there is no guarantee that the former Dinamo Zagreb starlet would jump into the nearest taxi to Leipzig airport.

Tottenham and Chelsea like Croatia’s World Cup centre-back Josko Gvardiol

“At the moment, we are very happy with Leipzig. It was the ideal choice for him after his years at Dinamo. After the World Cup, I know that Josko will be completely concentrated on the Bundesliga, the German Cup and the Champions League,” says Marjan Sisic, the 20-year-old’s long-time representative.

“We are taking one step at a time and carefully building his career.

“My phone rings all the time. It’s not a secret. But that’s how it’s been ever since he stepped onto an important stage, playing for the Dinamo Zagreb first-team. I repeat, we are in no hurry.”

Gvardiol, who grew up idolising Virgil van Dijk and Sergio Ramos, is one of a number of left-footed centre-halves on Tottenham’s radar heading into the New Year, alongside Jakub Kiwior, Piero Hincapie and Antonio Conte’s former Inter Milan colossus Alessandro Bastoni.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Ivan Perisic is busy trying to convince fellow Croatian Gvardiol to join him in North London after the Qatar World Cup.

“Josko is not the type of person who likes to make long-term plans. For him, the most important thing is always his next training session and next game,” Sisic adds.

“I’ve been his agent since he was 14. And our agenda has always been the same; take it one step at a time, move forward slowly but in the right place and at the right time.

“I certainly have great respect for Serie A, for Italy, Italian football, and for the traditional big Italian teams. And I’m sure Josko feels the same way.”
