Earlier on Wednesday, a statement from England revealed that the £50 million Gunners’ defender had left Qatar.
In the statement, ‘personal reasons’ were cited for the reason behind his sudden departure.
Here’s what Arsenal posted on social media tonight in light of that announcement:
Why did Ben White leave the World Cup?
It remains to be seen exactly why the former Brighton & Hove Albion defender left the camp.
However, due to the nature and how sudden it was, it more than likely relates to something more important than football.
White has shone in an unfamiliar right-back role for Arsenal this season, helping the North Londoner sit top of the Premier League table with a five-point cushion from Manchester City.
With Reece James missing the World Cup, White’s versatility could’ve come in handy for Gareth Southgate at some point during the knockout phase of the competition, though he hadn’t played a minute in Qatar prior to him leaving.
The Three Lions will continue to gear up for a round-of-16 encounter against Senegal on Sunday.
