Gary Lineker has praised Leeds United and USA international midfielder Tyler Adams on Twitter for the way he handled a tough question from an Iranian journalist about non-footballing issues.

The former Tottenham Hotspur striker and BBC MOTD pundit was left stunned at the way Leeds star Adams responded when asked about discrimination in the USA.

The USA and Iran will face each other at the 2022 Qatar World Cup on Tuesday evening.

Adams, who cost Leeds £20 million in transfer fees (Sky Sports) in the summer of 2022 when they signed him from RB Leipzig, was speaking to the media ahead of the big game.

An Iranian journalist pointed out that he was not pronouncing ‘Iran’ correctly, and then asked him about racism issues in the USA.

This tough question from the Iranian journalist to USA captain Adams came after US Soccer Federation briefly displayed Iran’s national flag on social media without the emblem of the Islamic Republic.

England are at the top of Group B at the moment with four points from two matches.

Iran are second with three points from two games, a point ahead of third-placed, the USA.

Wales are at the bottom of Group B with just a point from two games.
