The British star, who is known from the musical stage show The Rocky Horror Show and Home Alone 2: Lost In New York, suffered a ‘major’ stroke ten years ago.
The beloved actor has continued to land roles and provide voiceovers in different projects but many fans weren’t aware of his health issues.
So, what happened to Tim Curry? We take a look at his career and what’s the latest in his professional life in 2022.
What happened to Tim Curry and when did he have a stroke?
Tim Curry suffered a ‘major’ stroke in 2012, according to several media reports at the time. The 76-year-old British actor underwent physical and speech therapy as part of his health recovery.
In May 2013, his Los Angeles agent Marcia Hurwitz told the Daily Mail that the Charlie’s Angels star is “doing great”.
“Tim is doing great,” Marcia said. “He absolutely can speak and is recovering at this time and in great humour. He has been going to physical therapy doing very well and still has his great sense of humour.”
The statement continued: “He thanks everyone for sending good wishes.”
The actor has made several appearances in recent years, including a premiere in 2016 and a comic convention in 2019.
Ten years after his stroke, many fans on social media have revisited some of the actor’s iconic roles as he continues to make use of his legendary voice in projects.
Actor’s iconic career roles
Tim made his breakout in the industry with the musical Hair before landing the role of Dr Frank-N-Furter in the stage production The Rocky Horror Show.
He went on to appear in the London and Broadway productions of Travesties (1975-1976), which received two Tony Awards.
His performance in the 1981 Broadway show Amadeus bagged him his first Tony Award for best performance by a leading actor in a play.
Other notable roles on the big screen include John Huston’s Annie, The Hunt for Red October and Muppet Treasure Island. The cult actor has also released three studio albums, which are titled Read My Lips, Fearless and Simplicity.
Where Tim Curry is now
According to his biography on his personal website, Tim is currently based in Los Angeles where he continues to undergo physical and speech therapy for his recovery.
“In addition to his performance career, Tim is known to enjoy property development and has developed several beautiful homes around Los Angeles,” his website adds.
His most recent media appearance was in December last year when he appeared at the Emerald City Comic Con at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle.
As per IMDB, he provided narration in the 2022 film Fork and is set to provide the voiceover of Necrofer the Death Bringer in the sci-fi animation Dagon: Troll World Chronicles.
