Enzo Fernandez has been linked with a transfer to Liverpool [The Echo].
And what a way to endear yourself to Jurgen Klopp by scoring a pearler on the biggest stage of them all – the World Cup.
On Saturday evening, the Argentina international curled home his country’s second of the evening in a 2-0 victory over Mexico in Qatar.
It was a stunning finish from a player who’s making quite a name for himself, with Sky Sports claiming in August that he’s been on Liverpool’s radar for a while.
Whether a transfer to Anfield winds up materialising or not remains to be seen, but the 21-year-old Benfica midfielder may well secure a move away from Portugal in January or next summer, particularly if he continues to impress at the World Cup.

Here’s what Chris Sutton said about his goal last night.
He told BBC Radio 5 Live during the game [8:51 pm, 26/11/2022]: ““That is absolutely brilliant. What a finish into the far top corner, right-footed – on a postage stamp. Unbelievable finish.
“That’s game, set and match. Fantastic, Fernandez. We’re right behind it and he drives inside the left of the box, gets his head up and arrows the ball in. Lovely stepover. It’s beautiful – no chance for the goalkeeper, it’s wide of him with the bend on the ball. Fernandez is on the money.”
Enzo Fernandez to Liverpool?
Well, it absolutely makes sense.
Fernandez is a central midfielder and it doesn’t take a genius to work out where Liverpool’s problems are stemming from this season.
Some of their midfielders – like Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – are unreliable in a fitness context, while others, like Thiago and Jordan Henderson, are the wrong side of 30.
Klopp desperately needs to freshen up his options for this position and the more Fernandez impresses on a stage like this, the more the Reds will potentially be interested in him.
