December is almost upon us which means that Christmas movies are starting to appear across the various streaming services.

The newest arrival to Netflix’s line-up of festive films is The Noel Diary, which stars This Is Us actor Justin Hartley and Barrett Doss of Station-19 fame as their characters cross paths in unlikely circumstances.

Set in the state of Connecticut, The Noel Diary makes for a charming winter warmer of a movie but where exactly was it filmed and did it really use locations in the state it was set?

Where is The Noel Diary filmed?

The Noel Diary is filmed in several locations across the state of Connecticut in the US.

That’s right, the movie is filmed in the same location as its setting, giving The Noel Diary a pleasing sense of authenticity.

However, what isn’t authentic is the fact that production on the movie took place between May and June of 2021, meaning it was filmed during a summer heatwave and not in the depths of winter.

Residents of Connecticut will likely spot a few familiar locations, with Westport’s Washington Avenue playing host to the film’s central house – which is actually supposed to be in nearby Bridgeport.

Bridgeport does feature in the film, however, as the Mechanics & Farmers Savings Bank hosted Jake’s book signing, which supposedly took place in Chicago.

RJ Julia Booksellers in the town of Madison also featured during production as it played host to the store where Rachel buys her first book written by Jake.

Meanwhile, The Griswold Inn in Essex doubled as the film’s Maple Falls Inn while New Canaan’s town hall served as the downtown area of the fictional town of Maple Falls.

And finally, Remo’s Italian restaurant in Stamford served as the location of one of Jake and Rachel’s first dates.

According to The Cinemaholic, filming was originally planned to take place in Vancouver, Canada, but the production team had to move due to the Covid-19 pandemic, resulting in most of the film being produced in Connecticut itself.

Other projects filmed in Connecticut?

Over the years, Connecticut has become an increasingly popular location among filmmakers, in part thanks to financial incentives offered by Connecticut’s Film and Digital Media Production Tax Credit.

According to IMDb, more than 7,500 titles have been produced in Connecticut with some of the most notable including the recent Netflix films The Good Nurse and Mr Harrigan’s Phone.

On top of that, The Office US filmed some scenes in Stamford Connecticut while Denis Villeneuve’s Prisoners, Adam Sandler’s Uncut Gems, the TV series Departure, Leo DiCaprio-starring Revolutionary Road, 2005’s War Of The Worlds and Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull were also filmed in the state.
