CalcioMercato claim Liverpool and Manchester City have joined the race to sign Atalanta wonderkid Giorgio Scalvini – amid previous reports that said Tottenham wanted to land the Italy international ahead of the January window.

Scalvini, 18, is quickly climbing the ranks at Atalanta – already earning three Italy caps despite only 32 senior outings for Atalanta. Able to play as a central defender, or in holding midfield, he shares many characteristics with Eric Dier.

His form has been so impressive that Roberto Mancini has given him a chance. Indeed, he played against Germany in the Nations League – as well as appearing in two friendlies of late. Scalvini is a top, top talent and interest is hotting up.

CMW reported this month that Tottenham are eyeing a £30million double deal for Scalvini. Him, as well as Atalanta teammate Ruslan Malinovskyi. But now, CM report that it is more than just Tottenham looking to sign the versatile ace.

The latest report claims Liverpool and Manchester City are also interested. As are, European heavyweights Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Juventus. Interestingly, he shares an agent with Inter ace Alessandro Bastoni.

Liverpool and Manchester city have joined the race to sign Scalvini

In terms of young players and scouting networks looking to build their clubs in the long-term, Scalvini will be at the top of those lists. He will not come cheap, though. His Italy caps mean he is being rated at £26million, as per CM.

Which club would suit him best? Liverpool are known for given their young stars a chance. Pep Guardiola, perhaps, not so. But, they lack options at the back, and in midfield. But at Spurs, he could be the man to take over from Dier.

Scalvini is a top talent and one that would thrive in the Premier League. Perhaps, not straight away, but certainly, at some point down the line. But the ball is in Atalanta’s court – will Scalvini want to leave his boyhood club so soon?
