In an interview with Sky Sports, Reiss Nelson has lauded Mikel Arteta for taking Arsenal in the right direction under his guidance.

When the Spaniard took over from Unai Emery during the 2019/2020 season, the Gunners ended up finishing in 8th place.

However, the former Manchester City assistant coach was credited for leading the North Londoners to an FA Cup triumph.

Finishing 8th in the following campaign as well, Arteta’s lack of experience and tactics were criticised left, right and centre.

And considering Arsenal threw away top four at the end of last season, many believed he was not cut out to take the club to the next level.

With the side currently topping the Premier League table, it seems as if Arteta has silenced all his doubters.

Nelson praises Arteta

Reiss Nelson praised Mikel Arteta for how he is guiding Arsenal to the top in a latest interview with Sky Sports.

When informed that he is only one of the 3 players to still be at the club from when Arteta joined, he replied, “I know, it’s crazy to see.”

“I feel like he [Mikel Arteta] has a plan in his head on what he wants to do with the team. And I feel you see it now.”

“I feel like he’s building a team that really understand the philosophy and the way he wants to play and I’m just happy to be a part of it, really.”

Recently, even Aaron Ramsdale told ESPN that Mikel Arteta could build “something great” at the Emirates Stadium.

Arteta deserves all the credit in the world

While this is not to suggest that the once-Gunners skipper was always faultless, he has turned things around in emphatic fashion at the club.

At the start of the season, a top four finish seemed to be expected of Arsenal, but it was barely seen as a guarantee amongst the masses.

Currently, the table-toppers have dropped jaws across the planet, as they are firmly in the race to win the league.

Simultaneously, this young team are playing champagne football.

As Reiss Nelson implied, a chunk of the credit has to go to Mikel Arteta for Arsenal looking like top dogs again.
