Speaking on the ESPN FC Podcast, Vincent Kompany has been discussing Belgium’s chances of winning the World Cup and reported Aston Villa target, Eden Hazard.

Hazard is undoubtedly one of the most gifted players of his generation, and this is probably his last chance to win the world’s biggest football competition.

Kompany spoke highly of Hazard, comparing him to Kevin De Bruyne, stating that the difference between the pair is that Hazard never needs a plan on the pitch and that he himself can act as a one-man-army with the plan being to just give the ball to the winger.

Hazard can wing it

Kompany spoke about how Hazard can innovate.

“His football brain, I’ve always said it, if you give Kevin a team with a plan he will be directing the orchestra. You have other players like Eden Hazard, he doesn’t need a plan, you put him on the pitch and he is the plan, but Kevin sees everything. He closes his eyes and he executes it beautifully, he always knows what he’s going to do and that’s very special,” Kompany said.

Can he still do it?

When he was at his best, Eden Hazard could win any game against any opposition all by himself, but does he still have that sort of magic in his boots?

The Belgian has been out of favour and out of form at Real Madrid for a couple of years now, and Aston Villa do need to be wary of his decline if they’re going to proceed with their interest in the player.

Of course, if Unai Emery can get Hazard back to his best, Villa will have an absolute superstar on their hands, but it would take a very special coach to get Hazard playing at his best again.

Luckily, Emery is a special manager, and this could be a risk worth taking for Villa.
