Real Madrid are reportedly more worried about Manchester City than Liverpool in the race for Jude Bellingham, with the European trio all eager to sign the England international in the summer.
According to AS, the UEFA Champions League holders are desperate to sign the 19-year-old midfielder next year, though whilst Liverpool have been heavily linked with Bellingham in recent months, Madrid actually fear City the most in the race to land the Borussia Dortmund star.
As per the report, Pep Guardiola’s side are massive fans of the former Birmingham City talent, and with the Catalan coach now committing his future to the Manchester giants, this move could inspire Bellingham to move to the Etihad Stadium to play under the Premier League-winning manager.
With a price tag of £130m according to the Daily Mail, Bellingham is set to become the most expensive British player next summer as well as the most expensive midfielder in the history of football, and for Madrid, it makes sense why City would be viewed as a more fearful rival for the Englishman than Liverpool.
Indeed, City broke the British transfer record in 2021 for Jack Grealish, and there’s every chance that the Cityzens can repeat this feat next year for Bellingham, especially with the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan reaching the peaks of their career.
Although Madrid could be considered by many as the favourites to sign Bellingham, this latest update could paint a clearer picture of the actual race for the Dortmund star, and City could surprise a few next summer by winning the contest to sign the 19-year-old.
Man City signing Bellingham over Real Madrid and Liverpool will be a surprise
City might have the best case for signing Bellingham next year. As well as former teammate Erling Haaland being on their books, midfield is a position where the Manchester side need an exciting option for the future operating amongst their already stacked options. And for Liverpool and Madrid, this is a big issue.
As well as having the finances to make a deal possible, City have the prestige and the track record to given Bellingham a platform to become even better than he already is. And for the player himself, moving to the Etihad could be an exciting option in 2023.
