Cinema has given audiences a wide range of auteurs across its history, whether that’s Luis Buñuel or Wong Kar-wai. Amongst modern examples, it would be foolish to leave out Tim Burton, known for such efforts as Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, Batman, Sleepy Hollow, Sweeney Todd, and beyond. He’s essentially the gothic king of the modern medium, so who better to tackle The Addams Family?

We’ve seen the family in numerous incarnations but it’s time to focus on the titular daughter in Wednesday, a coming-of-age horror-comedy series that premiered on Netflix on Wednesday, November 23rd 2022.

Jenna Ortega commands the role with a supporting cast featuring Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, and more.

It’s a delightfully spooky affair, made all the more impressive thanks to the choice of music laced throughout Netflix’s Wednesday soundtrack…

I didn’t really know what to expect

Jenna recently sat down for an interview with The Face and was asked about her experience of working with Tim:

“Working with Tim was incredible. I didn’t really know what to expect and every time I’d spoken to him prior… He’s a man of very few words. You speak to him for five minutes about something that might be a really big deal, but he always goes more in-depth with things on set.”

She added: “I remember on the first day, I was really nervous to continue shooting with him because I didn’t know what it would be like.”

Wednesday is streaming exclusively on Netflix.
