AC Milan are reportedly ready to launch a bid to sign Olympique Lyonnais superstar Houssem Aouar, with Newcastle Unite now set to miss out on the playmaker.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Rossoneri will soon make an offer worth €8m (£7m) to sign the 24-year-old, with Milan looking to move fast to bring Aouar to the San Siro in January as the midfielder looks set to leave France in the January transfer window.
CalcioMercatoWeb have recently reported that Newcastle are also chasing Aouar as the France international looks ready to run down his contract with Lyon, which is due to expire next summer. However, it now looks like Milan will win the race to sign the Ligue 1 maestro.
Lauded by Pep Guardiola as an ‘incredible’ talent, Aouar’s style of play could be well-suited to Serie A given the slower pace of the league compared to the French top flight. Yet for Newcastle, missing out on the midfielder will be viewed by many fans as a blow for Eddie Howe’s side.

Indeed, Newcastle will struggle to find a better-priced midfielder in the January transfer market than Aouar. And whilst the Magpies will have other options on their radar, it’s hard to argue that that the third-place Premier League side will find a better deal than the France superstar.
As for Milan, signing Aouar will come across by many as one of the deals of the January window, with the midfielder still very much in the developmental stage of his career with the potential to become even better at a well-run club such as the reigning Italian champions.
Newcastle could regret not testing AC Milan over Aouar signing

Midfield will likely be a position Newcastle will look to add depth to in January. And whilst Milan have acted fast to sign Aouar, the Magpies should have followed suit with the Lyon star given how many boxes the 24-year-old ticks in what Howe wants from a playmaker.
Whilst the ship has seemingly departed on Aouar, Newcastle could take lessons from this saga in future endeavours with big-name targets, with the Toon more than capable of competing with a club like Milan for a player as good as the French midfielder, who could excel in Italy.
